Rimless Case
Can excessive light or glare cause blindness?
I got a pair of rimless trifocals with transition lenses (and the photo sensitive to sunlight) feature. There was a very slight change in my prescription. Almost immediately after I got them I had problems with light reflecting directly into my eyes … it seemed to be coming from all areas of the glasses and was glaringly bright. I was out of town for an extended time. By the time I got home there was a permanent change to my vision. I can’t read small print any more. Where I used to be able to read the tiny print on sweepstakes hang pads in the store, I can’t even read the phone book any more. My optometrist says it’s ‘cataracts getting worse.’ But it started almost immediately after getting the new rimless glasses and is horrible. Can excessive light or glare in this case, cause blindness?
No the type of excessive light and glare that you describe most certainly cannot cause blindness. I agree with your optician, it is more likely that it is just the cataracts that have caused the change in your vision, and the timing is just a coincidence with you getting your new glasses
